Welcome to the Rich Coach Club, the podcast that teaches you how to build your dream coaching practice and how to significantly increase your income. If you're a coach and you're determined to start making more money, this show is for you. I'm master certified life coach Susan Hyatt, and I'm psyched for you to join me on this journey.
You’re a really good coach. You’re smart, you’re kind, you love helping people, you’ve got a nice website, you’re active on social media, you send out your email newsletter regularly to promote your services. You’re doing all the right things, so why is it so hard to convince people to just freaking hire you?
Why have sales been so slow and why aren’t people enrolling in your programs? Why is this so difficult? What the heck is going on? This is a common dilemma for so many life coaches. It’s really upsetting. I know plenty of great coaches who are not making great money. That’s why I started this podcast, to help our industry rise higher and earn more money.
And it’s why I run several programs, specifically for people in the coaching field, and related fields because I’m tired of seeing broke ass coaches, y’all. Today’s episode is all about looking at a tough question. Why aren’t people hiring you? Or why aren’t people hiring you more frequently, more consistently?
Let’s look at a few reasons why this might be happening and if you’re willing to face this question with courage and really examine yourself and your business closely, your courage will be rewarded. Here we go.
We’re starting with a segment that I call your two-minute pep talk. This is the part of the show where I share some motivation and encouragement to get your week started off right. And I try, but not too hard, to keep things to two minutes or less.
Let’s cut to the chase. Why aren’t people hiring you? Why aren’t people enrolling to work with you? Why aren’t people buying your stuff? There could be several things going on. Number one, it could be a technical issue. Maybe your services aren’t prominently featured on your website. I can’t tell you how many times someone has complained to me that no one’s buying their thing and I can’t find it.
So if people have to search high and low and dig through your site just to find out what you’re selling, that’s a problem. Or maybe your contact form doesn’t work on your website. That actually happened to me one time. Or maybe your payment buttons don’t work. You’d be surprised at how often I see this.
Number two, it could be a communication issue. Maybe you’re not communicating what you offer and why it’s amazing in a compelling way. Maybe your emails, webpages, and other marketing materials just aren’t persuasive enough. It might be time to take a copywriting class or a public speaking class or hire a professional writer to help you spruce things up.
Number three, it could be an energetic issue. What kind of energy are you putting out into the world, boo-berry? What kind of vibe are you radiating? When you walk into a room, does the energy level soar to the sky? Like wow, damn, a queen just stepped onto the premises. Are you leading a life that you admire, a life you feel proud of? Are you practicing what you preach to your clients?
If not, then your energy is probably kind of dim and flat, or just feels off, which could definitely explain why you’re not attracting throngs of clients. There are certain people who radiate a particular kind of energy, powerful energy that instantly draws people in. This energetic pulse has nothing to do with your age, weight, size, really nothing to do with what you look like on the outside. It comes from the inside.
I always think about my friend Robert Hartwell. His company is called The Broadway Collective. And when I describe Robert, he is lit from within. He is someone who radiates love and power and compassion. It comes from within. It has nothing to do with anything else. So how do you get that kind of energy?
That’s the billion-dollar question and I would say it comes down to self-care, alignment, and confidence. You’ve got to take really good care of yourself and make self-care a priority to keep your energy shining bright. Sleep, movement, water, unplugged time, nourishing food, all the basics. You’ve got to align what you say and what you do. You’ve got to lead by example.
Whatever you suggest to your clients, you’ve got to do it too. And you’ve got to cultivate confidence. This is huge. You can boost your confidence by tracking your coaching victories, write down your victories to remind yourself, "I’m really good at coaching and my work is valuable.” Coaching can be built in so many ways, mostly through your thoughts. You have to think confident thoughts to take confident action.
When you conquer a challenge you didn’t think you could do, that builds confidence. When you push yourself out of your comfort zone, river rafting, pole dancing class, that builds confidence. When you work on your thoughts, of course, coaching yourself, that helps too.
So I’m going to be blunt. If you’re struggling to sell your services and line up clients consistently, I want you to take a good look at yourself in your business and assess the situation. Check for tech-y issues. It happens. Check for communication issues. This is one of the biggest breakdowns I see is not communicating frequently enough.
But most of all, check yourself. What’s going on with you, with your energy? Are you putting out a confident, inspiring vibe that draws people to you? If not, what can you do about this? Everyone has the capacity to put forth this kind of energy.
It’s not about being young or thin or conventionally attractive. It’s not about branding or cute clothes or having the best videographer in the biz. It’s internal. It comes from within, and it’s unmistakable. Shift your energy peeps and the dollars will roll in, and that is your pep talk for the week.
Now we’re moving into the part of the show where I give shout-outs to you. Shout-outs to listeners, clients, all the wonderful people in my business community. And today, I want to give a shout-out to Eleanor Cohen. So Eleanor wrote this long five-star review that so touches my heart, and she has entitled it, “This is self-expression in its highest form.”
“When I first stumbled upon Susan Hyatt, I didn’t like her. Is it okay to say that? I mean, now I totally love her and for the longest time, I couldn’t figure out what it was that made me, number one, addicted to her podcast, number two, show up at every single one of her Facebook Lives.” Double yay. “Number three, come to all of her webinars.” Triple yay.
“And then think to myself, who does this woman think she is? But now I know my entire life, I’ve been holding back my authentic self-expression. I was truly afraid of my gifts, my talents, I wasn’t owning up to them. I was afraid of what others would think of me. I was so afraid of being judged, I kept myself small. The reason every woman on earth should follow Susan and listen to this podcast is because she leads by example.
She is a woman who is always showing up in her full expression. She is a movement of helping women become their highest, strongest selves unapologetically. Not through validation of others, but by cultivating a knowing from inside of ourselves. And she does this with so much love and kindness. And at first, this triggered me because I was craving it so much.
I wanted to be that way too. Just by listening to her voice on this podcast, instilled an energy of confidence in me. I’ve really up-leveled my standards and how I show up in the world since I’ve met her. Since then, I’ve signed up for her programs, but I think she was my teacher and mentor before she even knew it.”
Holy cow, Eleanor. I love you. I know you told me this face to face, but it’s so sweet to read it. I just love you guys. So that’s my shout-out for today. If you have something to say about this show, please send an email to support@susanhyatt.co, post a five-star iTunes review about this show, wherever you listen. Either iTunes, Stitcher, Spotify. Or post something on social media and you might hear your name on a future episode. I love giving shout-outs to folks in my community, so holler at me. Thank you for the love, I love you right back.
Okay hey, one more quick exercise before we wrap up today’s episode. Sometime this week, write down 10 things that help you feel confident. Anything big or small or both. It could be blowdrying your hair, wearing your favorite perfume, having an orgasm before you head into work, squeezing in a morning walk or workout. Whatever. Whatever works for you, whatever helps you feel your best. Write it down, at least 10 things.
And then I challenge you to do all 10 things in one day. Boom. A major confidence day. Or if that’s not logistically possible, then do all 10 things over the next week. Really set your focus on significantly boosting your confidence and raise your vibration. Sometimes it really doesn’t take that much. Just a couple small things that help you feel so much better.
Thank you for listening to today’s episode. If you’re really struggling to make money as a coach, please don’t lose hope. You’re not the first person to struggle with this challenge and you won’t be the last. Even super successful coaches go through weird slumps where things just aren’t working and they’re like, what the heck is going on? Why is this program launch totally flopping? Why aren’t people purchasing this?
I’ve absolutely been there in the past, and I’m sure it’ll happen again at some point or another. We’ve all been there. It’s part of the learning curve of entrepreneurship. It doesn’t mean you’re doomed. You can do a good, honest assessment of your business and yourself. You can investigate what might be off or misaligned. You get things back on track and you can begin today.
