PODCAST

Who is your Philip?

Hello and happy Monday! This is Susan Hyatt and it’s GO time.

This is the 89th episode in a series of GO mp3s to wake you up on your Monday morning and get you going.

In this episode I’m sharing the secret to how I get it all done. The podcast. The blog. The coaching programs. The raising Ferris Bueller. LOL.

OK, so… I am totally obsessed with Bruno Mars. Maybe you’re a big fan, too.

If you’re like, “Uh, Bruno who?”… here’s a little info:

Bruno Mars is a super-talented pop star. You’ve probably heard his song “Uptown Funk,” because it was the #1 song on the Billboard charts for 14 weeks in a row. Or maybe you’ve listened to his song “24K Magic.” That’s one of my all-time favorites. I listen to that song every single morning when I go for my run.

Anyway… Bruno Mars. Google him. Get on YouTube. Listen to his music. I love it. Maybe you will, too!

I know this podcast probably sounds like “the Bruno Mars Fan Club Podcast,” but I promise, there’s a reason why I’m talking about Bruno so much. Because the topic of today’s podcast is… collaboration.

So, Bruno Mars didn’t become Bruno Mars all by himself. Yes, he’s crazily talented. Yes, he works incredibly hard. And also… he has created an amazing team to help him make his art.

One of his main collaborators is a guy named Philip Lawrence. Philip actually grew up right here in Evansville, Indiana, where I live! My husband got to meet him one time. I was out of town when it happened and I was sooo upset that my husband got to meet Philip and I didn’t. Life is seriously unfair sometimes. LOL.

Philip is a Grammy-winning producer and songwriter. He’s worked with Bruno on almost all of Bruno’s biggest hits, like “Treasure” and “Locked Out Of Heaven.” They’ve won awards together. They’ve toured the world together. They make music videos together. They’re colleagues and also close friends. They’ve worked together for so many years, creating magic together.

The other day, I started thinking to myself, “Who is my Philip Lawrence?”

I realized that I’ve actually got several Philips.

I’ve got my amazing assistant Ashley, who makes everything in my business run smoothly, including making sure that this podcast gets edited and uploaded every week.

I’ve got my photographer Chelsea, who documents most of my international retreats, and takes all the photos that go into my newsletter and social media channels.

I’ve got my design team at Blueline Media, making my website look snazzy. And thank goodness for that, because if I was in charge of designing and coding my own website, it would be… pretty horrendous. I’m happy to leave that to the experts!

When people say to me, “Susan, how can you raise two kids, work out every day, release a new podcast every week, run half a dozen different coaching programs, take women on international retreats, teach webinars, AND post things on Facebook like five times a day… all at the same time? How can you do all of that stuff without passing out from exhaustion?”

The answer is: “Because I don’t try to do everything alone.”

If I was trying to do everything alone, I’d only be able to achieve about one-tenth of everything I just listed. I need my team. I need support, or I can’t do what I do. Collaboration is essential.

Here’s my challenge for you this week:

Don’t try to do everything alone. Be willing to collaborate.

If there’s something that you typically do alone, I want you to bring someone else into the process.

For example…

If you typically cook dinner alone, this week, invite your kids into the kitchen to help you.

If you typically exercise alone, this week, invite a friend to join you.

If you typically work alone, this week, invite a couple people to come over and brainstorm with you. Host a coffee get-together or a dinner party. Make it fun!

If you’ve been feeling frustrated with a particular project—like reorganizing your garage, or updating your website, or figuring out how to use your new digital camera—bring someone else into the process. Hire someone to help you. Or take a class where you can get some fresh perspectives, and also meet some new people.

Rather than drawing inward and isolating yourself, do the opposite. Reach out. Connect. Get help. Collaborate.

The more that I collaborate, the happier and more successful I become.

I suspect the same thing is true for Bruno Mars, and I bet it’s true for you, too.

Don’t try to achieve everything all by yourself, because it’s simply not possible.

Find your own personal version of Philip Lawrence.

We all need creative synergy. We all need encouragement from our friends and peers. We all need collaboration. Inject a little more collaboration into your life and watch what happens. I bet it’s gonna be 24K Magic, as Bruno would say!

That’s all for this week’s episode. Have an amazing week. Work hard, play hard, be kind to yourself, and start some exciting new collaborations! See you next Monday for another episode.

It’s GO time.
