The Nerve to Take a Vacay

When was the last time you took a real vacation? When was the last time you packed your bags, switched off your devices, and truly escaped? We’re talking about a real, rejuvenating, soul-soaring vacation here. Not just scrolling through sun-kissed photos on Instagram while lying in bed with the curtains pulled closed. Not jetting off to a business retreat, however glamorous it may seem. Not rushing to the aid of family members in need, however noble that is. And certainly, not a vacation where you’re on the beach, but your mind is still sifting through work emails.

As a life coach of nearly two decades, I’ve seen it all: the self-employed heroes who never stop hustling, who forget to carve out time for rest, relaxation, and rejuvenation. This relentless drive often leads to an unwanted destination: Burnout City. So, my goal with this episode? To convince you of the power of vacations. Not just for your physical and emotional wellbeing, but for your financial prosperity too.

In this episode, we discuss:

In this episode, I share:

  • Why vacations are the best investment you can make when building wealth
  • All the ways you can vacation… with me!
  • How vacations are the doorway to your next big idea

FULL EPISODE TRANSCRIPT:

Susan Hyatt (00:00):
Is there something you wish you had the nerve to do? Welcome to, you've Got Nerve, the podcast that teaches you how to conquer your fears, upgrade your mindset, and get up the nerve to go after whatever you want. If you wish you had the guts to go all in on your goals, dreams, and desires, this show is for you. I'm master certified life coach Susan Hyatt, and I am so excited for you to join me on this journey. In today's episode, here I am coming at ya solo again with another summer pep talk. All right, blueberries, it's time to have a heart to heart. When was the last time you took a real vacation? When was the last time you packed your bag, switched off your devices and truly escaped? We're talking about a real rejuvenating soul soaring vacation here. Not just scrolling through sunkissed photos on Instagram while lying in bed with the curtains, pulled clothes <laugh>, not jetting off to a business retreat, however glamorous it may seem, and not rushing to the aid of family members in need, however noble that is.

(01:15):
And certainly not a vacation where you're on a beach, but your mind is still sifting through your work emails. As a life coach of nearly two decades, I've seen it all. The self-employed heroes who never stop hustling, who forget to carve out time for rest, relaxation, and rejuvenation. This relentless drive often leads to an unwanted destination called Burnout City. So my goals with this episode to convince you of the power of vacations, not just for your physical and emotional wellbeing, but for your financial prosperity too. Oh, I bet that got your attention, huh? It's not an exaggeration to say that vacations can make you smarter, healthier, wealthier, more creatively charged, and yes, happier. And if you're stuck in a rut in your business, the next big idea might just float into your mind while you're floating in a pool at some fabulous resort. Taking a vacation, a real one is an investment in yourself that can yield tenfold returns.

(02:25):
And it's a much needed break from your regular routine and a chance to see the world through a fresh lens. And the benefits are backed by hashtag science. Y'all. A proper vacation can recharge your enthusiasm for work, enhance your health and longevity, and stimulate your brain for greater creativity and problem solving. And if you're worried about unfinished tasks and responsibilities, just remember that life is always going to be a work in progress. Looking back on no one wishes that they had spent more hours in the office or checked more emails. They wish for more moments of joy, more experiences, more time spent savoring life's pleasures. So you get one life you need to make it count. Book the ticket, get on the plane, explore a new city. Or if you're feeling adventurous, a new country, claim that precious time for yourself. And trust me, you'll never regret it.

(03:31):
Well, here's another idea. You won a vacation with me. One of my favorite things to do is host retreats around the world. So I've got one event that literally every single one of you needs to attend. It's my yes event complimentary for my clients in my cozy hometown of Evansville, Indiana. So if you've purchased anything from me in this past year, you get a free ticket to this event. This complimentary weekend of magic is when you cannot afford to miss. So we're gonna link to it in the show notes. You can also email support@susanhyatt.co. Also, I don't know if you've heard, this hasn't even made it onto my website. I don't have a sales page for it, and it's almost sold out, but you, you'll wanna get into my inbox for this one. Also, you can email support@susanhyatt.co, but I don't know if you wanna go walk or hike the Camino Day, Santiago with me, DM me or email the support inbox.

(04:42):
I only have a couple of spots left. This is gonna be the iconic trip of the year, and I planned it in celebration of turning 50, um, on my website, we'll link to it. I also have retreats to Morocco. I have an almost sold out, uh, retreat to Vietnam happening. I mean, come on, these trips, the free event in Evansville, Spain, Morocco, Vietnam. You wanna get in on these things. So vacations, listen to me, aren't just about sipping pina coladas on the beach, although that's pretty fantastic. They're an absolute game changer for your health, wealth, and happiness levels. That's why I devote so much of my business to creating those kinds of experiences and going on epic adventures myself. Your path to the next big idea or the solution to that nagging problem could all be hiding behind a well-deserved rest and vacation. Um, I was telling a client this story the other day about how I took on a vacation, a retreat to Hawaii, and the goal was to write and to come up with ideas and to really just have downtime to allow whatever creativity needed to bubble up, to bubble up.

(06:15):
And at this point in my career, Scott Hyatt was not yet sold on the topic of this podcast episode and not totally. And he was like, oh, yeah, sure, you're going to, you know, write like whatever. And I was like, listen, what I know for sure is that if I just allow my brain to relax, if I give myself the white space to be creative, it pays off. And so I took a special journal, a special notebook with me, and I rested and relaxed and wrote down ideas. And then about a year later, um, I took my company p and l statement and I handed my notebook and my profit and loss statement to my husband and said, you can correlate every idea in this notebook with the multimillion dollars I just made. So suck it <laugh>. And he never questioned my mantra on this ever again. Um, because I can draw the lines between downtime and revenue. So it might be time to invest in you and time to say yes to new adventures and yes to resting and rejuvenating, and yes to embracing the vacation mindset. Because when you do, you're not just signing up for a break, you're signing up for a life that's richer in creativity and health and pure, unadulterated joy, a life full of. Yes. So what are you waiting for? Pack your bags, grab your sunscreen, and let's do this BooBerry.

(08:04):
Okay, now I am going to, uh, give a shout out once again for my summer of Yes program. You can find all the details in the show notes, but you're gonna want to be in community with people who are really practicing what I talk about in this podcast episode. So get registered for summer of Yes, and let's do it.
