Put Yourself Out There

Have you ever introduced something to the world – a new offer, workshop, coaching package, etc. – and didn’t sell even ONE? 

Been there, boo. My question for you is: what have you done to put this offer out there? Like, REALLY put it out into the world? 

Often, instead of actually selling, Coaches will spend time fretting about their business, complaining to their peers, fixating on their opt-in numbers and site traffic, and doing absolutely anything to avoid reaching out directly to a prospective client and asking for the sale.  

What can you do to turn this all around? In today’s episode, I’m sharing how to put yourself out there without feeling pushy, plead-y, or sleazy.

Welcome to the Rich Coach Club, the podcast that teaches you how to build your dream coaching practice and how to significantly increase your income. Oh, hey coaches. Early on in my coaching career, I was whining to one of my mentors about my pathetic business and total lack of clients. And I think I said something like, "I just created this new coaching package and no one bought it." I mean can you believe it? What the hell? Maybe I should just go back to real estate. And my mentor played the tiniest violin in mock sympathy for me and said, "Listen, Susan, how is anyone going to buy your coaching package when you haven't even put it out there?" And damn it, she was right.
Instead of actually selling my beautiful new coaching package, I spent my time fretting in my head about how was I going to make this business work? And I'd spend hours complaining to my peers and my friends and my fellow gym goers and anyone who would listen about my business woes. And I'd ruminate over a single sales email for days trying to perfect every last word resulting in the piece of copy with zero personality that only probably put potential clients to sleep. So what did I do to turn this all around? I started putting myself out there in a big way. And in today's episode, I want to teach you how to do the same. It's time to start making a scene about our own work. Let's get to it. If you want to see massive success in your business, you've got to start by connecting.
In the early days of my business, my mentor challenged me to introduce myself to 50 new people in a 30 day period and offer my services to every single one of them. I was absolutely terrified. What if they laughed at me? What if they thought I was a joke? And the truth is, someone had laughed in my face before. It was a man that I met at a breakfast networking event. I was fresh out of my coach certification program, and I proudly told him that I was a life coach over a cheap breakfast buffet. And he burst out laughing, spilling crumbs from his stale donut onto the floor. Listen, I'm laughing, but that situation sucked honestly. But I survived it. And because of that, I knew I was brave enough to take on this 50 person connection project. So I started with friends and family and people inside my social circle.
And then I branched out to people I'd never met, hitting up in-person networking events and reaching out to people online. And lots of people said no, which was to be expect. But a few people said yes, and a few people was all I needed to muster the courage to go after more. Soon, I had my first 10 clients and then it turned into 20 and 50 and 100. And today, I run a multi-million dollar business and it all started with those initial connections. Connecting personally and deeply is the main strategy I use in my business today. I put myself out there constantly, both online and offline, and I connect with potential clients, referral partners, the media, conference bookers, agents and other influential people. I get plenty of rejections, but also plenty of wins. Putting yourself out there through the power of connections is the best way to reach the level of success you desire.
And it doesn't stop there. Another way to put yourself out there is with the power of your words. Be vocal about the things you care about, help people with your wisdom and experience and do it consistently. Every week, I put out a brand new podcast episode like this one and a new Sunday email. Every day, I show up on social media, specifically Facebook and Instagram, where my ideal clients tend to hang out there. I don't just post and flee. I'm also active in my comment section and in my private Facebook group, it's called Go Time. And listen, you can get the link to that in my show notes. When I've got something to sell, you better believe I'm showing up and putting it out there in a big way. And that includes sales emails and social media posts. But more importantly, my promotions include active ways to connect and get a taste of what it's like to work with me.
I host free challenges, master classes and workshops online. I even hosted an impromptu dinner party in my backyard to meet new people and introduce them to my work. If all of this feels a little overwhelming, I recommend starting with my three, two, one approach. This is a very simple networking strategy that anyone can do and it costs nothing. And here's how it goes. Every day, send three emails. So email three people to let them know about your coaching practice and give them a little information about the services you provide. It's okay if they personally don't need a coach. What you're wanting to do is explain what you're doing and what you're excited about and ask them to keep you in mind or spread the word to people they know. You can email friends, family, colleagues, former employers, teachers, classmates, people in your faith group, or support network.
You probably know more people than you think you do. Now listen, I know that sounds scary to you all. It's scary to me too. It's scary to my colleagues. I mean I coach people who run eight figure coaching practices who are like, "Okay, I'm taking a deep breath and sending that email." Then by sending those emails or having three conversations or connecting with three people a day, you're going to have people to thank. So you want to send two thank you notes a day. Reach out to two people simply to say thank you. Say thanks to a local business owner who inspires you, someone you follow on social media, your best friend, your FedEx driver. Listen, I need to thank FedEx right now today. I'm recording this on November 15th because FedEx is going to bring me my expedited passport renewal back to me quickly. So I can go take my mastermind to Costa Rica.
Whew, you all, when I realized last night that I only had a couple months left on my passport, I about had a panic attack. But that's for another podcast episode. Okay, when you're sending these two thank you notes, tell them how much you appreciate them. You don't need to ask for anything. You just share your appreciation generously and freely. And by doing this, you'll build stronger relationships and you'll plant yourself in people's minds. Plus, it always feels good to shower someone with gratitude. Next, introduce yourself to one potential client, right? So it's send three emails or have three conversations, phone calls, however you want to do it. Write two thank you notes. And then have one introduction or face to face with a potential client. So that could be via email, text, quick conversation at a coffee shop, a social media DM, or simply handing someone your business card. You don't have to be pushy or beg them to hire you on the spot and you certainly don't want to slide into somebody's DMs unannounced.
But listen, you want to be saying things like, "It's great to meet you. Let's keep in touch." This is the hardest part of the three, two, one strategy, but the more you do it, the less scary it will feel. Lots of coaches come to me wanting a miracle to happen. They want more clients and more opportunities for their business, and they want it to swell to six or seven figures. But miracles don't happen when you sit around and wait. Miracles don't happen in a single social media post or an 11 part passive income sales funnel. Miracles happen when you bravely put yourself out there over and over again. And I know you're up for it and I am too. Let's do it together. All right, it's time for community wins. This has quickly become my favorite part of the whole show because this is where I get to brag about you all, people who are part of the Go time group, or people in my masterminds, or one-on-one clients.
And I have several wins that I want to share here because I really subscribed to the belief that if we can't see it, we can't be it, and that means at every part of our journey. So for those of you who have struggled during the pandemic, I think you're going to love Peg [inaudible 00:09:15] update. So Peg said that the Hot 100 challenge. Now, the hot 100 is something we're doing inside of our On the Six mastermind. So she writes, "The Hot 100 challenge has inspired me to have an in-person networking event this Friday. And I think it's going to be fire. It's helped me realize my strengths, which are hospitality, inclusion, being with real people. I've struggled over COVID and being mostly online, which has been frustrating. And now, I'm feeling so free and excited about my business. And I'm also realizing in-person retreats and day workshops could be an avenue for me that I never considered."
So yay, Peg. I'm someone who loves the in-person experience as well so I totally get this. And so for all of you who are listening from all over the world, I think now that the world is getting vaccinated and COVID numbers are going down in many places, we can start to be in-person again together and it's so exciting. Another On the Sixer, Kelly Tipton, said, "Hey, I want to brag. I trusted my intuition and joined On the Six. I've learned so much about how to get my business up and going. And I'm so glad to have this group where I can ask anything, get help and keep going. There's no slowing me down and I'm just so happy." That makes me happy, Kelly. And then we have Kelly Thompson who's in the Higher Level mastermind. Now, I've bragged about Kelly multiple times, because she's just always doing the damn thing. And Kelly says, "I'm having my best month ever," all in caps, "In my business."
"It's going to be a 30K month. And if my corporate deal closes this week and I'm feeling good about that, it'll be a 45K month, and it's only halfway through the month. I've also turned in half of my book to my coach editor and it's on track to be out September 1st 2022." Oh my God. I love that revenue and I love a book. So get it, get it, get it. Nikki McKnight in my Higher Level mastermind says, "I just love all of us bragging. And in my second year of business, I hit my first six figure year. And about seven months into the year broke into a new market when I launched my second brand to train digital support providers like VAs and OBMs, and created my first digital product, the transformational team toolkit, which is everything I know about hiring and wished I'd had it 10 years ago." Listen, that is so inspiring. And let me tell you something, I think any of you all listening who are hiring your first employees, you're going to want to track that down. We'll put links to all this stuff in the show notes.
