It’s fall, bitches. Fall is in the air. You might be getting your pumpkin spice on. We actually lit our first fire last week at home and this season comes with so much fun. It’s my favorite season. I love pumpkins, I love mums, I love crunchy fall leaves under my feet when I take my morning run, and I’m not a huge sports person, but there is some excitement of football season that I love.
So whether or not you’re a football fan, you’re probably familiar with the nail biting that sometimes goes along with the underdog in the game. Trying to make a big fourth quarter comeback, down to the last seconds of the game, only a couple of points behind, and one last chance. You see where I’m going with this?
What about when it comes to the end of the year? Does the same philosophy hold true for you? Do you attempt to make the best of the last days, weeks, months of the year? Or do you just throw in the towel and take a knee? Do you look ahead to the next year figuring, just like a diet, I’ll start January? Or maybe you just go to sleep in the fourth quarter. You’re like, hey, it’s time for my long winters nap.
No. Wrong. Hell to the no. You guys, this isn’t just the fourth quarter of the year. As I’m recording this, there are 78 days of this decade left. Can you believe that? That is absolutely mind-blowing to think about, that this is it for this decade. An entire decade is coming to a close.
And listen, it’s my opinion that we owe it to ourselves to finish strong. We owe it to all the women who have come before us. My great-aunt Madeline, for example, today is her 100th birthday. It’s her century ride, y’all. So my great-aunt Madeline, her house was right behind mine, and my grandmother - it was her sister, lived right next door.
So I grew up - my childhood was pretty amazing that I grew up with these two strong women on the same block, in addition to my own mom. And I thought about her this morning and I thought about 100 years. Think about everything that she’s seen and experienced.
And she and my grandma both, they worked from home. They raised a family, my grandma had a garden, my great-aunt Madeline, they really raised their kids and supported their husbands but they were strong Southern women who instilled in me - I don’t want to say responsibility, but they definitely made it clear like hey, do something with yourself.
And so when you think about closing out this decade, I think about - especially today - I think about my great-aunt Madeline and making her proud. And all the opportunities that we have today, especially online with our businesses that they couldn’t have ever dreamt up.
At my annual Finish Strong event, I just got back from it, it was in San Diego last week, I watched this room full of coaches transform right before my very eyes, from the Friday night yacht party to the time we said goodbye and hugged goodbye on Sunday afternoon, they gained so much clarity, they made so many connections with one another, and there was a fire that was lit inside them.
And it was nothing short of awe-inspiring to me. It all comes down to investing in ourselves. And as women, we’re absolutely guilty of putting ourselves last on the list over and over and over again, and I’ve seen really strong businesswomen do this as well. So finishing strong is about hey, we’re going to step this up a notch, a big notch.
Taking our power back and elevating ourselves to close out the year with the kind of results we can be proud of. So why wait until January to make plans? That’s treating your business like a diet. Why not take advantage of the last 78 days of the year to help clients create more money and elevate those goals? You won’t just be making deposits into your bank account. You’ll be making deposits into your confidence account as well.
Here’s your two-minute pep talk for the week. And this is the part of the show where I share some encouragement and inspiration to get your week started off right, and I try to keep things to 120 seconds or less.
So our topic this week is comebacks and how you can create one of your very own. So over the summer, you guys made have noticed I do something - a little something something called the Summer of Yes. And it’s always so much fun for me to welcome women to a summer of saying yes to themselves and yes to their own pleasure.
And I watched one of my clients have a major transformation. So she’s a published author, she has a really thriving business, she’s known as an expert, and she’s worked hard for many years. And she signed up for Summer of Yes because she wanted to test out my theory that the more fun you have, the more money you make.
I swear, I sat at home watching her on social media thinking, holy crap, she traveled all over the world. She reported to me that she worked so much less than she’s ever worked before, but she embraced the just say yes philosophy and started putting herself first again. And by the end of the summer, she joked like, hey, I was floating on a unicorn floatie in the middle of a pool sipping some champagne and reading the first novel I’ve read in probably five years.
And she said all while making the most money I’ve ever made. Want to know how she made it happen? Really was by prioritizing pleasure. It sounds so simple and it really can be. We just have to give ourselves permission to allow ourselves to experience pleasure on a deep level again.
Now, it’s kind of cliched. I actually had a photoshoot of myself on a unicorn floatie with some champagne. It seems so cliched, right? That life isn’t just floating on a unicorn floatie, but with pleasure comes power, and with power comes progress, and with progress comes profit.
It’s not just about the money. Being profitable in life is about all the joy of living life to the fullest, what that can bring. And it’s about the riches that pleasure can bring. So, make some time while you’re going for your fourth quarter comeback for some vitamin P as well.

So throughout this episode, we’ve been talking about how finishing strong is one of the most important career moves you can make. And I want to offer you this; if you’re feeling down and exhausted, I get it. There have been times when I felt so distraught I thought I’d never reach the end of it.
I shared with the crew that came out to Finish Strong in San Diego that I recently found an old journal entry from 2006. And I have to tell you, I was down on my fucking knees over an issue I was having with my son Ryan. And in the journal, I wrote these words. “Please help us. Please let us gain clarity. I feel so hopeless with it all. I want clarity and guidance.”
Listen, I’m not kidding. I was down on my knees, y’all. Bottomed out, unsure how I’d find any light at the end of that tunnel. And I get how circumstances can trigger a tsunami of negative thoughts and that it can pile up on you, and that whatever you’re experiencing can seem all-consuming.
Maybe right now you have some relationship issues, or some family trouble, or maybe your business seems like too big of an obstacle to conquer. But listen. Listen to me. That’s what comebacks are all about.
I was reminded when I started with this fourth quarter football theme for today’s podcast that when Ryan played football, he actually was a really great little football player. In the seventh grade, I remember we went to watch a game and I am not, as you probably can tell from jokes I’ve made, I’m not a big sports enthusiast.
I actually love being athletic and if I have a heart tie to the team, I can get super into it, but I’ve got to have - my kids have got to be playing for me to care. And Ryan played on this football team in seventh grade, and I’ll never forget his team was in the lead and it was say like, the final 20 seconds of the game, and they had, if I remember correctly, a first down.
And the coach instructed the quarterback to take a knee, which is in essence, would end the game. And I remember I’m like, wait a minute, what? They’re not going to go for it? They’re not going to go for another touchdown? They’re on the one-yard line.
And all the dads around me were like, oh, it’s smart for the coach to do that because if the other team gets a hold of the ball, they could score and we could lose in the last 20 seconds. And I remember I was so incensed. I was like, they are on the one-yard line. They should go for it.
And everybody else was like, you just don’t understand football, which is probably true, but I was like, take a knee? That is so - to me, I was like, what? I felt robbed. And I feel like finish strong for me is really not taking a knee. Don’t you dare take a knee. Don’t you dare take the safe way out on the one-yard line. Go for the additional points.
So it’s about putting on your big girl panties and wearing what you want and saying what you feel. There’s still time. Even when you’re feeling as down as I felt then when I wrote that journal entry in 2006, reach down inside yourself and pull out what I know you have, that extra 20% to rally that inner badass. It’s not over until it’s over, and boo, it’s far from over.
