Welcome to the Rich Coach Club, the podcast that teaches you how to build your dream coaching practice and how to significantly increase your income. If you're a coach and you're determined to start making more money, this show is for you. I'm master certified life coach Susan Hyatt, and I'm psyched for you to join me on this journey.
People, can you believe that we’re right on the cusp of a brand-new year? 2020. And it’s not just a new year but a brand-new decade. Holla. So today’s episode is short and sweet. There’s no interview segment. It’s just me.
And today, I’m going to give you five powerful questions to consider as we head into 2020. Even if you already have a pretty solid business plan for the upcoming year, keep listening because I think you’ll like these questions a lot and they might spark some new ideas for you. So here we go.
As always, we’re starting with a segment that I call your two-minute pep talk, and this is the part of the show where I share some motivation and encouragement to get your week started off right. And I try to keep things to two minutes or less.
Alright boo, you’re listening to the Rich Coach Club podcast because you’re a coach or you’re a coach in training, an entrepreneur. You love coaching, obviously, you want to build your dream coaching business, you want to earn significantly more money, but without exhausting yourself in the process.
You want more clients, more money, more freedom, more fun. Yes ma’am, all that. So what’s your game plan? What’s your strategy for 2020? And how are you going to achieve those goals? If you’re feeling a little overwhelmed with 2020 business planning, hey, I’m your girl, I want to help you out. So let’s get back to some basics.
Set aside your big complicated Excel spreadsheet for a sec and let’s get back to some simple foundational questions. So I have five questions for you. Grab a notebook and a pen if you want to write down your answers. I love to whip out my Go Time Planner and I love to get a notebook and write it down because there’s something magical that happens when you write it, not just type it.
But I know many of you are sitting there in front of your laptops or your iPads so that’s okay. You can also just listen and contemplate as we go along. So number one, what are three ways you’re going to make money in 2020?
Again, I’ll repeat it. What are three ways you’re going to make money in 2020? Write them down. Three ways. Go. Keep it simple. Maybe you’ll write down one-on-one coaching, workshops, paid speaking gigs, write books, or whatever services you intend to offer.
If you have more than three money-making ideas, cool. But please write down your three biggest revenue streams. The three main things. These might be revenue streams that already exist or ones that you intend to put in place in 2020.
Okay, next question. Number two, what are three ways you’re going to show up for your audience in 2020? So when I say show up, what does that even mean? Showing up is anything you’re doing to be public, be visible, put yourself out there and market your services.
So showing up could mean sending a weekly newsletter, launching a podcast, sharing hashtag inspiration on Instagram. It could also mean leading free mini classes to get people excited about your work, a little sample so they want more, or reaching out to a local radio station and getting booked for an interview, or something else.
There are infinite ways to show up. I want you to choose three ways for starters. And what are the three ways you’re going to show up for your peeps in 2020? Write down three things you’re willing and excited to do.
Okay, next question. Number three, what’s one thing you want to change about your business in 2020? Write down anything that comes to mind. Maybe you’re so done with doing everything yourself. You’re ready for an intern or an assistant.
Or maybe you’re tired of leading retreats because you want to focus on revenue streams that are less costly to set up, with higher profits. Or maybe you want to change the focus of your business. Maybe previously, you positioned yourself as a relationship coach, but really, you’ve realized that you’re all about sex. You want to rebrand your coaching practice and let people know you’re a sexpert and you’re here to unleash millions of orgasms. Or you know, something like that.
Write down - I crack myself up. Write down something you want to change. Next, number four, what’s one way you could boss up and level up in 2020? So for instance, I have a girlfriend who recently declared, “I’m ready to get my own office space downtown.” Me too, boo. Me too.
I don’t know if y’all heard, but I’m building a building. More of that later. So your friend’s like, "I’m ready to get my own office space downtown. I’ve been working from home for 10 years.” For me, it’s been almost 13, but I’m ready to get a real boss lady office outside of the home, it just feels right.
And she’s searching for options and she’s so excited, and this feels like a beautiful way for her to level up in 2020. What about you? What’s one way you could boss up in 2020?
For you, it might be setting consistent office hours and sticking to them. Hello. Finally getting that website up. Also hello. You should use Susan Hyatt, the agency for that too, by the way. Hiring a tax expert to handle your filings instead of, oh, just winging it.
What would bring your business to the next level? I’m actually building a three-story building to put Susan Hyatt’s headquarters in it with my empty-nester penthouse on the top level. I’m actually upping what I’m doing with my bookkeeper and my accountant and my CFO. I have very consistent office hours. So that one applies to lots of my clients.
But you know, bossing up. Write down an idea. What comes up when I ask that question? Okay, last question. What’s one area in your life, business, or both, where it’s time to take a leap? A leap of faith, a leap into the unknown, a creative stretch, an emotional risk.
So you might have seen the announcement or maybe not, but here’s some big news I just eluded to. I’m launching my own marketing agency in 2020 and I’m scared. I’m scared and excited. Scared-cited. I know I can do this. I’ve got an all-star team in place. You guys, I seriously do.
I know we’re already doing indescribable work and I’m still scared because it’s a big leap. It’s a big new project, the stakes are high, it’s a considerable creative stretch. The agency is my biggest leap for 2020. So what’s yours? Are you quitting your day job so you can become a full-time coach? That’s a big leap for sure.
Or maybe you’re going to work fewer hours and work smarter, not harder. You’re pledging to take Fridays off every week and you’re leaping into a new kind of work schedule. You’re trying a new way of working, trying something you’ve never done before.
That’s a courageous leap for sure. I know how scared I was when I first started taking fun Fridays. I thought, “Oh my gosh, clients are going to be so mad if they can’t book on Fridays, how will I ever get all my work done?” You know what, it was one of the best things I ever did for my business.
So how are you going to leap into 2020? Write it down. Alright, let’s recap. Here’s those five beautiful questions again. Number one, what are three ways you’re going to make money in 2020? What are three ways you’re going to show up for your audience in 2020? What’s one thing you want to change about your business in 2020? What’s one way you could boss up and level up in 2020? And what’s one area in your life, business, or both, where it’s time to take a leap?
Boom. If you can answer those five questions, then you’ve got the bones of a really great plan for 2020. Your business plan doesn’t really need to be 40 pages long, y’all. It doesn’t need to be crazy complicated and exhausting to read.
In fact, the most successful coaches I’ve ever worked with, the people who are making serious money year after year, these are typically people who’ve got a really simple plan. Like a business plan that you can fit onto one page, or onto the back of a cocktail napkin, as I’m famous of talking about my Delta napkin business plan.
I wrote my first business plan on the back of a Delta airline napkin on my way home from coach training. My business has grown significantly since 2007, but I still keep things pretty simple and focused. So PS, if you love those questions but didn’t get a chance to write them down, visit my site, susanhyatt.co.
You’ll find the podcast section and then you can read the transcript of this episode. We’re putting it in the show notes. You can find them all there. So to wrap up this pep talk, let me leave you with these reminders. Keep it simple, resist the urge to overcomplicate things. Focus on money-generating activities, not pointless busy work, and focus on showing up for your audience consistently to serve, being out there, being of service, being visible, not hiding.
And choose a few ways to boss up and leap because your courage will be rewarded. So do these five things and you’ll be setting yourself up for an amazing 2020. You can do this. Pep talk complete.
Now we’re moving into the part of the show where I give shout-outs to you. Shout-outs to listeners and clients and all the wonderful people in my business community. And today, I want to give a shout-out to Mrs. DJAK. So Mrs. DJ, thank you so much for your five-star review.

I love you right back.
Okay, one last thing before we wrap up today’s episode. Do you sometimes feel like you’ve got way too many tabs open in your internet browser? Way too many tabs open in your brain? Too much noise, too much distraction, it’s hard to focus and get things done.
So listen girlfriend, you need to get Block Site and install it ASAP. Google it or go to blocksite.co. This is the world’s number one website blocker. It’s free and it’s really easy to set up, and then you can enter a list of websites you want to block like Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Netflix, or whatever distracting websites you want to block for as long as you want to block them. You get to decide.
And then when you’re working, when you feel tempted to pop over to those sites, nope, you get blocked. No access. So the best part is that Block Site is really cute. So for instance, when you try to access a blocked site, it shows you a hilarious photo, like a puppy gazing longingly at pie, with sad puppy dog eyes.
And it’s like, no way boo, don’t touch, you blocked this site for a reason. For me, it needs to be shopbop.com. I do so much shopping on Shopbop. And by the way, side note, everybody who emails and asks me where I get my clothes, my cute t-shirts, all that stuff, it all comes from shopbop.com. So try it.
I have colleagues who swear by Block Site. It really can improve your productivity so much. And you know how your phone has airplane mode? Yeah, so do yourself a favor and flip that on when you’re working. Seriously, it’s the simplest thing to do and it removes one more layer of potential distractions from your brain.
I know a lot of stuff is going to come up inside your brain but just do it and deal with it. It makes such a difference. Airplane mode every day so you can soar into greatness. But seriously, try it.
Alright, thank you for listening to today’s episode. And if you didn’t already, go back and answer those five questions. Start getting your business plans squared away for 2020.
